Board of Governors

Lindsay Hetherington – Chair of LGB and Parent Governor

I’m delighted to serve as co-Chair of KB Primary’s governing body. With one child who recently moved on from the school and another currently in Year 4, I’ve seen firsthand what makes this place so special.

What I love most about being a governor is that it’s essentially about asking lots of questions and talking to people – which happens to be exactly what I enjoy doing! My role focuses on supporting the school to keep improving and maintaining KB Primary as a learning community where everyone can truly thrive.

In my professional life, I’m Head of the School of Education at the University of Exeter, but my days are just as likely to involve ferrying children around to various activities. When I’m not doing the school run, you might find me discussing books (I’m always reading something!), leading our local cubs group, or at the bouldering centre where I’m enthusiastically terrible at climbing. I’ve recently added commercial dance classes to my list of things I’m bad at but absolutely love doing anyway.

Being part of KB Primary’s governing body means I get to combine my passion for education with my commitment to our local community – and there’s nothing more rewarding than helping to shape the place where our children learn and grow.

Miranda Martyn – Headteacher

Kristy Giles – Parent Governor

I’m one of the Co-Chairs of the Local Governing Body. I have a strong personal connection to the school — not only do I have one child currently in Year 3 and another who recently moved on to secondary school, but I also attended the school myself as a child.

I’m passionate about helping the school be the best it can be. I believe in creating a supportive, inclusive learning environment where both children and staff can thrive. Being a governor gives me the chance to contribute to that, and I particularly enjoy the face-to-face involvement and working closely with the school community.

In my professional life, I’m a property lawyer at a local firm of solicitors, based right here in town. It’s a busy role, but one that I enjoy (having been doing it now for 20 years) — and it’s lovely to be able to support the school while also working locally.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, going on countryside walks, and reading — especially anything to do with World War II history. I also enjoy a bit of creativity in my spare time and love painting kindness stones to leave out and brighten someone’s day.

Being part of the governing body is a real privilege, and I’m always happy to talk to parents, carers, or anyone in the school community who wants to know more about what we do.
